Who would have guessed that you could run a one terabyte drive off “spare power” over a USB port? That can’t be more than 4.5 watts (the maximum allowed by USB specs, that is, 5 volts times 900mA) and is probably no more than 2.5 watts–in either case, less than the “off” power our TV used to draw.
